THIRD YEAR IN ORDINARY TIME + CYCLE C READINGS PSALTER WEEK 3. + WEEKDAY CYCLE ONE. + VIGIL FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY WEEK. 21 JANUARY 2007.

My dear people,

The Gospel read today talks about "all eyes" on our Lord as he rolled up the scroll of the Prophet and told them that the prediction was being fulfilled in front of their very eyes if only they had the eyes to see and the ears to hear.

It is a constant amazement that turkeys do vote for Christmas. The Word of Jesus Christ which has created our so called Western Civilisation and all its fruits and dignities and values is being set aside as fast as our rulers and opinion leaders can, for an untested and spurious new MORALITY. Our Government think it a real achievement and "advance" to have introduced same sex "marriages" for instance.

Now our Rescue Society and all the Catholic Societies in the different diocese are locked horns with the government in order to preserve the right of Catholic children to be adopted by couples made up of a man and a woman who will support the child's Catholic Faith. The rulers say that we must be willing to give our children to gay couples or singles if they so ask for it otherwise we will fall foul of the Law which says you cannot discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation. I doubt if many gay people wish to adopt a Catholic child and bring them up in the Faith but the intention is to shut down our whole R.C. welfare operation just in case they do.

There has been no consideration given to the right of a child who has already (sadly) had to come for adoption being landed with the untested experiment of having two adoptive parents of the same sex and all that this will mean as the child grows and develops. To have a mum and dad is not too much to ask for it and yet it seems beyond their collective judgement to admit to that. So far no society has been able to substitute parenthood without great suffering to the child. Great damage has been done to the Family in recent years with people not marrying at all and the rulers doing nothing at all in law or taxes to encourage family life or recognise the good it does for society.

In the meantime our population is shrinking. We are not replacing ourselves at all. No wonder our rulers are bringing so many workers from overseas. With too few babies of our own and 182,000 per year in England and Wales aborted we are certainly like turkeys voting for Christmas.

Our Lord's sublime teaching and the influence his teaching and the Christian life has had on the world is immense but it is a legacy which depends on a certain body of Believers living the Christian life in fidelity to the Truth. The Secular (anti Christian) agenda is only opposed at this time by the Islamic agenda and we seem to be spectators. Our Bishops are fighting hard for this fundamental right for us to live and practise our faith even if it does offend those who regard our morality as oppressive or homophobic - so what! Since when does being a Christian and especially a Catholic Christian seek the world's approval? When Pilate asked of our Lord at his Trial "What is Truth?" our Lord answered "For this I have come into the world to bear witness to the Truth" and elsewhere he says "I am the Truth". So - send us to prison, shut down our Child Care institutions, stop our catholic schools teaching about the holiness of Christian Marriage and what do you end up with? You end up with an oppressive and repressive regime no better than "thugs" who happen to have a majority in the House of Commons. They are not willing to live and let live - they demand that you dance around their diversity altar and smile whilst doing so - well we won't do will we?

A long way from the synagogue at Nazareth or is it?

God Bless,

Fr Tom Connolly
