FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT Cycle C
My Dear People,
The Temptation of our Lord in the Wilderness after his fast of forty days and forty nights is an epoch making encounter for Satan has met his Vanquisher. Remember that Satan is a fallen angel and does not have all knowledge. He knew that our Lord was totally different than any other man who had been born into this world since the Fall of our First Parents and in tempting Jesus the way he did he is testing our Lord to see if there are any cracks in the armour. They are fundamental temptations to do with our Lord's Mission from the Father and the way it was to be accomplished. In the end Satan is proven to be utterly useless and ends up asking our Lord to worship him!! How much of a loser can you be ? Each time our Saviour answers through the words of Sacred Scripture. That example of our Lord is a lesson for us in Lent. Try to do spiritual reading each day. The little books will help you. Allow the Word of God to penetrate your heart. Father Flynn's class on a Thursday is meant to help you to do just this using the following Sunday's readings as the material for medicating on the Word.
Have a fruitful Lent. There is a short STATIONS OF THE CROSS EACH DAY AFTER MASS on a weekdays. In St Kentigern's there is Stations of the Cross on Sunday at 4pm. Because of other pressing commitments we can't have the Stations in both parishes on a Sunday what with the Marriage Course 2.30 - 4.30 and Fr Flynn's Instruction in the Catholic Faith (RCIA)
We now have the continuation of the Holy Father, Pope Benedict's Letter to us for Lent:

WORLD YOUTH CROSS DAY PALM SUNDAY 1 April 2007. This is a preparation for the Meeting with the Pope on Sydney in 2008. The Youth Cross will be processed from St Edward's parish to St Kentigern's Parish on Palm Sunday at 2pm with the Bishop leading us in a liturgy of the Word in the Church. Afterwards in the Club there will be refreshments and a video Presentation about the event next Year in Sydney. Me and father Flynn want as many youth as possible to take part in this and will be approaching you with an invite.
Priest: In this Holy Season of Lent, let us draw near to our Lord Jesus Christ on his way to Calvary to suffer and to die for the redemption of the human race. In his Name we come to the Father in our needs and for the needs of the whole world.
Reader: We pray for the community of nations and especially for those who seem to threaten us or who hate us - that God his good ness will preserve us from malice and from warfare. Lord hear us.
We pray for all who struggle with evil inclinations, addictions or habits of sin that they will have the faith to realise Christ's saving power in the mercy of the confessional where all is peace and joy in the Lord. Lord hear us.
We pray for the success of the Lenten Station masses around our Deanery - that they will be occasions of showing our sense of the community of the church in our diocese and in communion with our Bishop in his Apostolic task as overseer of the flock of Christ. Lord hear us.
We commend to God in this season of Lent those who have to carry the cross of sickness: Ged Mannion, Tommy Lynch, Elaine Farrelly, Brendan Foran, Madge O'Mahoney. Lord hear us.
For all whose who have died in this time, Elizabeth Sweeney, William MgGrath, Baby Molly Ailing, Chris Burke, Sister Joan, Julie Merter, Annie Sloyan and Irene Towey
For all those whose anniversary of death falls about this time: Joseph Devlin, Dorothy Esplin, June Duffy, Seamus Crawford, Michael Joyce, Margaret Cole, Elsie Gillen, Dorothy Lowe and Bridie Hyland.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Mary is the Mother of all the Living and the Second Eve who stood faithfully by the Tree of life at the Cross of her Son - we salute her and seek her help-Hail Mary.
Priest. O Lord and Heavenly Father, listen to the prayer of your people gathered on this first Sunday of the Lenten season. Bless our efforts of spiritual renewal and hear our prayer. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
