TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY C. + 3RD OCTOBER 2010.
MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.
My Dear People,
The afterglow of Pope Benedict is still with us and none of us who witnessed it will ever forget it, such was the presence of the Vicar of Christ. The great and the good, the lawmakers who have made evil laws and the judges who put them into practise were all there and every Prime Minister alive was there to greet the Holy Father. I was at a Conference last week where Michael Gove, the Minister of Education, was the main speaker. He began by saying (to a totally non religious audience) that he could not begin without telling us how moved he was by the Great Assembly in St Mary's College Twickenham with the Pope's talk on education and the formation of our youth on the Friday morning. He said that he was so aware that the Church has educated and still educates a huge percentage of he human race. He referred to the Benedictines and their influence on the civilising of Europe through the monastic life and schools etc. It was quite moving to hear a Minster of Education talk like this.
The Peer, Lord Patten put in charge of the Papal visit by the PM described it as a huge success. He said that the addresses he gave would now have to studied carefully for our generation needs to hear and understand the message Pope Benedict was giving about our roots as a Christian people, formed by the Christian faith and that without it - or having it driven out by secularists did not auger well for the future. The Pope referred to Communism and Fascism as the results of the rejection of the Christian faith and culture in the last Century. He reminded us of the consequences!
You know, in our days there is a massive and powerful and vocal body out there in every political and social sphere which pushes hard the agenda of removing children and youth from the care and authority of parents in favour of The State.
The State goes on about child protection and yet multiple partnerships and lack of esteem for marriage make the chance of a child being abused in the home increase hugely. GPs give girls the pill at 13 years of age even though it is illegal to have intercourse with one under 16. The police are not bothered. You cannot give a child an aspirin in school and yet they could be given contraceptives without the parent(s) ever knowing by the school nurse.
These things encourage what the State says it does not want - kids being used and exploited. There is dishonesty here and the Pope referred to it if they were listening to the voice of Peter. This rejection of marriage is the beginning of the rot. The new Party Leader did not have the time to go and register himself as the father of the child he and his girlfriend had produced or to marry the same woman who is expecting their second. Yet he says in his speech that he wants homosexual couples to have "MARRIAGE" - not civil partnerships - What sense is that when he cannot even enter into any commitment himself!! They walk in their own darkness don't they?
There is a massive lobby to introduce contraception and abortion as a human right in the Third World from the United Nations Downwards. It is called Reproductive Rights - what it means is abortion and contraception and often by force - as in China. No objections of the human rights offences are made by these people. If it is to prevent babies then any method is ok. It reminds me of the millions starved to death in China and Russia through the collectivisation of the land and even now historians are almost uncritical, preferring to focus on the Final Solution of the Nazis. Many millions of our children in the Western world have never made it past being implanted in the womb. They are consigned to the bin and yet all those little souls wee meant by God to grow up like you and me. Now they are reproduced in order to take their parts to treat a sibling - so they are used for spares and then killed off. My dear pope, future generations will look on us and see the voice of the Church as the only one which spoke out against this violation. Our Lord will say - "you were doing what a servant of mine should do". We were merely doing our duty.
Excuse me for going on about it but I am at the chalk face as your priest and I see their cunning schemes and want you to be aware and educated and informed. So - there you have it.
God Bless, Fr Tom Connolly.
