Message From The Parish Priest
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE C. 27th June 2010.
MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.
My Dear People,
On Tuesday 29th of June we celebrate the Holiday SS Peter and Paul. England has kept this as a holiday of Obligation because of our historical association with the See (Diocese) of Rome.
It was Pope Saint Gregory who sent to these islands the missionaries headed by St Augustine of Canterbury. (620) So we make the fact that the Catholic Church was really fully established here by a direct intervention of the famous Pope the cause of special devotion.
This year at the end of the Year of the Priests ceremonies in Rome we gathered for the first two days a very short distance from the Monastery of St Andrew - the very one Augustine left from with his eight other monks to come to England.
The Church had been in these islands before Augustine landed from Rome, via France. However, the Church was scattered and patchy but was in communion with the Pope of Rome but one could say that the mission of St Augustine became the beginning of the English conversion as a Nation in the making, and the adoption of the ways and rites of the Latin Church set our history until 1532..
Our nation can never forget its deepest roots and even though those that rule us are trying to make us believe and to teach their immoral and false ways - we in the spirit of the great Augustine will resist and refuse to believe and to teach that for example civil unions are the same and equal to marriage.
The Church faced Druids and tree worshippers in this land and they often slew our priests and lay people, especially when we were making headway and winning the souls for Christ. So we stand firm with the successor of Peter in the Apostolic Office exercised by St Peter. Both Paul and Peter suffered martyrdom for teaching Christ. We might have a fight but it is hardly our blood they want, just our consent to their gross errors. However - be aware of the times. By law and by force they will try to enforce their immoral teaching and accuse us of non inclusion and discrimination or phobias of many kinds. Jobs might be on the line and even fines so we must be aware of the extent to which the Enemy is trying to subdue us. They are not into "live- let live" brigade but "you will agree with me or else, brigade!" Pope Benedict gave a bit of his mind to our outgoing Government some months ago by Equality Laws of Mrs Harman. Good Pope Benedict - they did listen didn't they- a bit. Let us hope his words during this visit will open people's minds and hearts to Jesus Christ.
The Gospel today has James and John wanting to set fire from heaven on the wicked bigots who would not let them pass through because they were Jewish and on their way to Jerusalem. It would be a bit like the pilgrim coach to Knock being prevented from going through some Orange stronghold. Our Lord admonishes them and they find another way. Our Lord is a man of peace and teaches us by his example.
Father Tom Connolly.
The First Communions went very well. A great Friday Night Mass was had for the children on the 25th and they received their Certificates and had a Party and Family Disco afterwards for themselves and their families in our Parish Centre so ably assisted by Kevin Fitzpatrick.
