SIXTH SUNDAY (a) OF EASTER + 29th MAY 2011. +

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

My Dear People,

Our Lord's words today are filled with the promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit.

"I shall ask the Father and he will SEND to you another Advocate (the first Advocate being Jesus of course) to be with you forever." The Holy Catholic Church is the recipient of this great and continuous Gift. After all, if the early Church needed this Gift of the Advocate how much more do we with the liberal agenda being pressed on us every day as evil is re-defined as good.

The world can never receive him our Lord says. Why not? Well the phrase "the world" is used by our Lord to denote that hostile Enemy called Satan and his influence in the hearts of those who worship at his altar. It is the same "world" who called Jesus the devil and who shouted crucify him! It is vanquished of course by the Resurrection but it still is allowed to test Godís People and to persecute God's faithful ones. How much more we need the gift of the Holy Spirit not to lose faith and to hold firm in our following of Christ and his teaching and his Church.

Thank God that the same Gift of the Holy Spirit who was invoked so strongly before the Passion bore such great fruit.

We have a man and a Pope in Benedict XVI who is only too well aware of the challenge to the Church in our age. He also knows in detail where the wounded Body of Christ is suffering and what needs to be done. He said in his homily at his Inauguration "Pray that I do not run away from fighting the wolves who attack the Flock." You see, they do exist. Our Lord will not leave us orphans. He gave us a most wonderful Father in the late and great Blessed John Paul and he has given us another Father in Benedict. Our Lordís Vicar on Earth will not run away from the flock entrusted to his Universal care as the Chief Shepherd. The utter mockery from his Foes, shows how widespread the suspicion of the Catholic and the Christian Faith and of Christ's Vicar on earth.

One of the ways our Lord's Promises are kept is through the Gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church to keep it in unity and sound teaching. It is through the Gift of the Holy Spirit that the church's priests are endowed with the power to change the bread and wine into the Lordís Body and Blood and to offer again on the Altar the one and unrepeatable, Immaculate sacrifice of Calvary. It is the Oblation. The same Gift empowers the Church through it various organs to guide the world and the Faithful in the great ethical questions of the age or the era and to do so with acute accuracy and without ambiguity. The same Gift allows us to love Christ and to receive him with loving and docile hearts. Dare I mention also that the same Gift keeps purity of heart and allows couples to marry and binds them together in a sacramental Bond called Marriage.

"If anyone loves me they will be loved by my Father and I shall love him and show myself to him." That is a promise our Lord always keeps and it is the universal experience of Christians.

May is the Month of Mary our Blessed Mother and we honour her.

Father Tom Connolly

BIDDING PRAYERS

Bidding Easter 6a

Priest. Let us pray to Christ, who rose from the dead to restore our life.

Reader: Jesus, you are the stone rejected by the builders but you have proved to be the chief cornerstone of God's House; make us living stones in the temple of your church. Lord hear us.

You are the faithful and true witness, the first born from the dead - may your Church never cease to proclaim you to the world. Lord hear us. Through your death and resurrection you took the Church to be your Bride - cherish her and love her and keep her faithful and prepare us for the day of your coming. Lord hear us.

You are the first and the last, you were dead and in the tomb and now you are alive, never to die again- may all the baptised be faithful unto death and gain the crown of eternal life. Lord hear us.

In your earthly ministry you healed the sick with your word - heal those who have fallen ill: Tom Colbert, Martin Hoysted, Sam O'Keefe, Sean Fitzpatrick, Brendan Byrne, Irene Farrelly, Maureen Waring, Mary Tivnan. Lord hear us.

Christ our Lord is the light and joy of the city of God, shine on the faithful departed that they may reign with you forever: Madge Bradley, Peter John Grey, Patricia Gaynard, Dr Patricia Raftery, Patrick James Brett, Paul Sweeney AND for all those whose anniversaries occur about this time: Molly Crone, George Brenington, Marie Murphy, Seamus McKeown , Anastasia Kinsella and ,Joe Breheney.

MAY THEIR SOULS AND THE SOULS OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED THROUGH THE MERCY OF GOD REST IN PEACE. AMEN

Mary - Mother inviolate and Queen of the May - O Mary conceived without sin. Pray for us who have recourse to thee. Hail Mary...

Priest: Almighty and ever living God, bring us to the joy of your heavenly city, so that we, your little flock, may follow Christ, our way and our life. We ask through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
