Sermon for 7 October 2012

Twenty seventh Sunday of Year B + 7th October 2012. Year of Faith.

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

Marriage my dear people - the readings from the Word of the Lord are all about the nature and purpose of marriage. Now - it is very good to know the nature and purpose of something because it gives you a good indication about what it is for eh ?

Now - to start on the negative - our politicians think that they can re-define marriage so that you can have a marriage between, not a man and a woman as God created it - but between a man and another man or a woman with another woman of the same gender. Now that cannot be marriage as such, because you lack the basic ingredients - male and female. Surely nature teaches even with the Christian or Jewish revelation that the man is made for the woman - they fit together in their parts do they not? And fitting together they - if God gives the great gift - they become in marriage (ideally) pro-creators and another little boy or girl comes along to join the human family and the family of God if the parents get them baptised. THUS THE HUMAN RACE HAS A FUTURE.

Now to say that you can dispense with gender is very foolish and dangerous. If you change the ingredients you will not have the cake. What ever it is - the same gender is not marriage.

This of course the Ancient Enemy at work trying to abolish the fundamental nature of humanity by abolishing marriage by making it "anything at all". In a few years time the same people will use the same argument and if a man loves his horse - why should he "be deprived of marriage" - which is what they are saying about same gender attraction. My dear people it is so sad that their minds are clouded over. Once these things get passed by Parliament they will have the Muslims demanding more than one wife - how can you deprive them??

The Book of our Beginnings - Genesis makes it very clear about the creator's intention. When Adam woke up from his God-induced sleep - he encountered one of his own nature who exclaimed was "at last flesh from my flesh and bone from my bone - she shall be called WOMAN" AND SHE BECAME THE MOTHER OF ALL THE LIVING. So you see it was Adam and Eve who started this cycle of pro-creation under Godís guidance. Not Adam and Steve but Adam and Eve.

So wonderful was this union from God it became the building block of human society. Even the Communists did not do away with Man and Woman in Marriage - atheists as they were to the core. They knew that there was no substitute of r the bringing up of kids than father and mother Ė married in close an abiding union of love and SOLIDARITY in marriage. Now I know that many fail in this and divorce takes place. Everyone who suffers a divorce is well aware if they are good people at heart that it is not an easy solution - that everyone is a loser and especially the offspring but it does happen. What our Lord says from his Divine lips and with his Divine authority - you cannot re-marry another whilst your spouse is still alive. You must get a declaration of Nullity from the Church if you wish to marry again in the Holy Church. Anyone can apply for this and should see a priest to see if it worth pursuing. Sometimes it is just the case of not "working out" and hence NO FAULT breakdowns. Only God knows the human heart.

What we do know is that many young do not marry today because the marriage bond - so easy to get out of, has been somewhat cheapened by the easy way out. Young people say "Why bother - we will stay as we are". This is not what God wants though. We should not live as if we were married when we are not. Do you do God's will or your own? If you believe in Jesus you should do what he teaches and read the gospel today and you will know what he teaches is what his Church teaches, and the Catholic Church is the only one who stands up for Jesusí teaching on Marriage today. It is costly but so is the opposite eh? Think about it. Faith makes yo have different values than the rest.

All you married couples rejoice in one another and what God has given you! Long live married life.!!!

God Bless,

Father Tom Connolly
