THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD a. 20th May 2012.. . WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY.

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

My Dear People,

Our Lord will come again to judge the living and the dead but he now reigns over all from the throne of Glory in Heaven with the Father and the Holy Spirit. In that place of bliss and perfect love and order - Christ our Risen Lord awaits us. He animates his Church on earth with the Gift of the Advocate. This is the Advocate he said to the Apostles that he would send - the Spirit of Truth who WOULD REMIND THEM OF EVEYTHING HE HAD TAUGHT THEM.

That is how the Church is able to function today and have its Being as the Bride of Christ on earth. Animated with the Holy Spirit Christ speaks and loves through her Sacred Ministry. The saving Sacraments of the New Covenant are universally celebrated for the salvation and sanctification of souls. His word is taught and explained to countless millions (the Catholic Church is the largest single educator in the world); his saving love is communicated in the countless works of mercy and kindness done in His name for and for His sake every minute of the twenty-four hours. You might be surprised that the Catholic Church cares for more sufferers from AIDS than any other single body. I have said that before but it needs repeating. Without the Charity poured out from the heart of Jesus the world would dry up altogether.

The spiritual ecology of this earth of ours has a most gifted Spiritual Head in the person of Pope Benedict XVI as President Obama remarked as he became the next person to stand in Westminster Hall and address the two houses of Parliament after Pope Benedict. In His Holiness' words and address. In the Pope's words you find a celebration of the truth as you find nowhere else one the face of the earth. The Holy Spirit is certainly "on him" and he speaks the words Christ wants us to hear in order to be enlightened and comforted whilst he is away from us and until He COMES IN GLORY.

Pope Benedict has proclaimed the Year of Faith beginning next October. Your priests are preparing for it and each Bishop has to give the Programme for that diocese to square up to the communication of the Catholic Faith in new and attractive ways. How can people be saved if no one is telling them about Christ and his Church and way of life? Modern man stands thirsting for the truth and often the Catholic believer is in no fit state to communicate the saving message of Christ to that needy person. So, our Faith has to be sharpened up so the Year of Faith will be an opportunity for us all to do that, priest and people. Watch this space.

Our Lord prepared the Apostles for his departure and when he assembled them in the one place he then took leave of them commanding to go to all the nations to preach the word and to baptise and he promised to be with the Church until the end of time. Today Christ has gone to Heaven to await us. He has gone away only to return. He has gone away only to "prepare a place for us". He has gone away but promises to "return to take you with me so that where I am, you maybe too.."

Now that is worth living for isn't it? A Happy Feast of Ascension to you all.

Father Tom Connolly

INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS- DUBLIN
The St Patrick's Bell is travelling the length and breadth of Ireland - each parish community greets it. We have the opportunity to do the same when the Congress Bell of St Patrick arrives at St KENTIGERNíS Church at 4pm on Sunday 27th May - next Sunday. There is a special Liturgy to receive this symbol of the Faith of St Patrick - He used to sound the bell inviting people to hear the voice of Christ through his lips and those of his disciples. The bell will be rung in our church for the whole Deanery so do come and pray for the conversion of many as St Patrick - the Apostle of the Irish did with his Bell - come and pray for the success of the International Eucharistic Congress June 10 - 17 this year and hear the voice of the bell calling us to Christ.

EXAMS PRAYER FOR STUDENTS (YOU WILL FIND COPIES ON A CARD AT THE PORCH OF THE CHURCH).

For the intercession of St Martin de Porres for exam success.

Loving Saint Martin ask God to bless my examinations and my hopes for the future year. Obtain for me light and strength to make full use of all the gifts given to me. Help me not to get over tense or confused so that I can use well the knowledge I have acquired. May the Holy Spirit guide me so that I can go forward in courage, hope and joy and give a worthy service to God and my neighbour all the days of my life.

BUILDING WORKS: You will notice the scaffolding going up on the presbytery. At the survey recently it was found that the roof and pointing needed attention. The windows were all original and leaked so had to be renewed with fitted double glazed. It will be more efficient heating too. The cost is very good for the times we live in and I will give you a full account when the work is complete. Suffice to say I have saved up for this for a few years so have the dosh - thank God. THE CLUB also need half a new roof.
