THIRD SUNDAY OF THE YEAR IN ORDINARY TIME. + Cycle B Readings.+ 22nd JANUARY 2012.

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

My Dear People,

First of all I would like to thank you for your great charity to The Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child. which. received your offering from the White Flower Appeal for the cause of fighting the Abortion Law and helping the mother and child to keep to Life. The Crib offering too raised nearly £300 for the Children of our Diocese helped by Caritas (Rescue Society) Match these generous deeds with your generous hearts and you can see what becomes of charity - that virtue which is fundamental to the whole Christian way of life. If charity goes out off the window we would be finished and thank God it flourishes in so many way here. It is not simply giving money but the amount you give in relation to your income is so much greater. You also match it with loving and forgiving hearts and lives and minds. Well done.

On 27th January at 5.15 the new building of Loreto High School will be blessed. Pray for them and support them. The school has new staff and a new building which is the state of the art and will continue to prove to be an excellent school under Mr Luke Dillon. Please choose Loreto High School for your child in the future transfers from Primary and you will not be disappointed.

The Gospel today is about the call of the Apostles. There they were with Zebedee, mending their nets and our Lord comes and invites them (maybe commands them?) to "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men."

They got up AT ONCE and followed him. What a marvel their vocation was. From simple fishermen to great Apostles – ones who are sent. They would be prepared for the three years of Christ’s public Ministry. Our Lord said to them before his Passion- "You are the men who have stood by me faithfully in all my trials.." he loved them to the end. They were weak but he made them strong. They carried the Catholic faith to the ends of the earth. Their successors in every generation are the bishops – those men who have the threefold Ministry bestowed by Christ through Sacramental Orders of Sanctifying, Teaching and ordering the Holy Church of God. Those who in communion with the Successor of Peter – the Pope – are the full shilling, having within them the fullness of unity desired by Christ and the fullness of the teaching of Christ for His Church.

The dynamism of the Catholic Church and its ability to renew itself out of the ashes comes form the living gift of the Holy Spirit who is the soul of the Church. No matter how bad we members can sometimes be, the Church itself is deeply holy because it is the Body of Christ and the Paraclete dwells within it as in a body in the soul.

Our Lord carefully constructed the basic structure of the Church and made it clear that he would be with it until the end of Time itself.

Let us pray that Marriage will be esteemed again and so become a seed ground of vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life. Next Sunday THE MARRIAGE preparation begins at 2.30 in St Kentigern’s parish Centre. Pray for all the coupes of our deanery parishes who will be doing their marriage preparation in the next few weeks. They are noble souls who are marrying in spite of the negative attitudes in our culture towards matrimony. May God grant them great happiness and contentment in each other and their offspring.

God Bless,

Fr Tom Connolly

FIRST COMMUNION CANDIDATES ARE COMING TO THE 11. AM MASS TODAY AND WILL RECEIVE A COPY OF ONE OF THE GOSPELS. THEY ARE CHILDREN WHO LISTEN TO GOD’S WORD AND FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST. PRAY FOR THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES THAT THEY WILL GROW STRONG IN THEIR FAITH.

Bidding Prayers

Bidding Prayers 3rd Sunday B.

Priest: With call of the apostles we all feel the need to respond to our Lord’s calling to us to follow him in whatever vocation God has given us. We bring to the throne of Divine Mercy the needs we have and the needs of the whole world.

Reader: We pray for many more generous and youthful hearts to experience the joy and vigour of Christ’s call to a priestly or consecrated life Vocation - the calling to Christian Marriage – and all the different ways in which Christ calls us to build up his Body, the Church, on earth. Lord hear us.

For all those who have to leave father and mother and lands for the sake of progress for themselves and their families- comfort the exile, welcome the stranger, lead all to a safe harbour and to our heavenly home. Lord hear us.

For the cause of Christian Unity: may the Conversion of St Paul help us never to underestimate the power of God’s grace to bring back the stray and to heal the brokenness of human sin and division - may there be One flock and One Shepherd under the supreme pastoral office of the Papacy - the focus of unity. Lord hear us.

For our First Communion Candidates and their parents and teachers - that they may grow in the love of Jesus, listening to him speaking to them in the Scriptures and at School in the Religious education lessons. May they children who live the teaching of Christ. Lord hear us.
