15TH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR + A+ 13TH JULY 2014. + Month of the Precious Blood and Sacred Heart.

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

My Dear People,

Is it not sad that when the western world is crying out for more babes because the population is aging fast, the MPs and MEPs are attempting to reduce the need for two doctors to sign the execution certificate for an abortion to go ahead and wanting it to be the job of a nurse? The International Family Planning Association and Stonewall want 5 years old instructed in schools about the dangers of pregnancy (teen age type).

It never ceases to amaze me, the evil intentions for our young children from really powerful people like Ministers of Overseas Aid and Health of all Political Parties. The Culture of death Pope Saint John Paul called it, and it certainly is. "Mercy killing" is the next evil seed they are sowing. A BILL FOR Assisted Dying is before the House of Lords now. I tell you the frail and elderly have a lot to fear. They are devalued by this kind approach saying you are better off dead - a burden to yourself and to society- go!!

Those who will state the ultimate rejection of their created nature and say "I have had enough now you will kill me – I demand it!." Suffering or frail old age has no merit for them - only health and strength. The late Pope wrote some very moving and analytical reflection on the good and evil battle over the unborn child and he of course understood it as an insider being the victim of great violence or would – be assassin and forced labour under the Nazis as a young man.

It is the same hatred for human life which causes nations to abort its young like we do and those same people loathe Almighty God. There will be no civil peace in our nation when this great evil is practised in our midst. No wonder the teenagers are killing each other - we have made life cheap so why shouldn't they? Let us pray that we can enjoy civil peace in our country. St Paul in the 2nd reading talks about this world being "delivered from its slavery to decadence to enjoy the freedom and the glory of the children of God." How much we need to long for that state of blessedness.

The Parable of the Sower is a very apt one for the season. The fruits of people's sowing are now being enjoyed or endured! If you neglect a garden or an allotment - you will see the fruits - brambles, weeds, saplings growing - things gone to seed or out of control. The Divine Gardener sees all these things. We used to have little books of devotion you will remember - they were called the "Garden of the Soul". In them they used to have all kinds of useful prayers and methods to tend to the garden of your souls and to keep down the weeds and to plant lovely things.. I always think it is better to keep out weeds not by keeping the soil clean but by filling it with abundant good things. That is the way of the Virtues. The virtues demonstrate the ways we love the good God. Almighty God is always sowing in the human soul, seeds of hope and salvation and devotion. The devil sows discord and disharmony and chaos. We pray "deliver us from evil" and we mean it. The great antidote to the vices is the virtues and the grace of the reception of the most Blessed Sacrament and the use of the Sacrament of Confession. Our inner most souls will not then get choked by the "cares and lure of riches of this world" as the Lord Himself warns us in the Gospel today.

We pray that we will be people who provide a good reception to the seed which God sowed in us in Baptism. We will be good and fruitful soil bringing forth goods in due season and producing a harvest of good things - 50 fold - 100 fold.

God Bless,

Father Tom Connolly.

Bidding Prayers

Bidding Prayer 16th Sunday A.

Priest: The Farmer only sows good seed. May we God's people be one day worthy to be gathered into the Master's Harvest. May the Good Lord who sows the seed in our hearts always find a lively response to his work within us so that we may bear a good harvest as we come to him with our needs and he needs of the whole world.

Reader: We pray for the Universal Church - the fertile field in which the Divine Farmer has sowed the good seed of Faith - may she always bring forth from people's hearts, the virtues which enable people to flourish and develop through Faith. Lord in your mercy.

Father, through Christ you have reconciled us to yourself: keep us in your name that we may all be one. Lord in your mercy.

Father you have called us to walk in your Light and do always the things that please you: may our lives as a parish be rich in every kind of good work. Lord in your mercy.

For all going on holidays - that they may find peace and relaxation from the daily toil and return, safe and sound. Lord hear us.

For social peace in our Land that we be delivered from the hands of those who hate us and that those who hate us will have their hearts changed and learn to treat others as they would want to be treated. Lord in your mercy.

For all our sick that the Lord may strengthen them in their weakness: Peter Borsheds, John Ward, Jack Harrington, the child Olivia, Maura McBrien, Mrs Keegan, Kirsty Rafferty, Denis McLoughlin, Eileen McCormack, Tom Cummins. Lord in your mercy.
