SIXTH SUNDAY A 16TH FEBRUARY 2014. MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST. Year of Evangelisation
My Dear People,
"Man has life and death before him" the writer says in the first Reading of the Holy Mass. Our Blessed Lord in the continuation of the Sermon on the Mount spells out the new Law of Freedom which fulfils the Old Law completely and makes us all grow up to keep God's commandments. His Commandments are easy when we are in union with the source of Life- Jesus Christ. He says to the hearers "You have heard it said that you must not commit adultery but I SAY TO (notice the Divine Authority)" DO not even do it is your heart and then you will be keeping the commandment. Now we take that for granted don't we? Lustful longings are to be fought, not entertained. In other words our morality will go much deeper when we live with the life of Christ. We will genuinely want to keep his Commandments and indeed we will see it as a new freedom.
There is no one free if they are tied up in mortal sin by the Evil One. There is no one freer than a child of God, living in a state of sanctifying grace. The human soul and person becomes the Dwelling Place of the Holy Spirit.
Believe me; you only have to read the papers to see what happens when Pope talks about living by the commandments. The popular Pope Francis is disapproved of.
When people give into temptation they take revenge, they murder, they take another's spouse , they bear false witness, they refuse to forgive and stir up long hatreds and live the big lie. They ruin a person's good name by lies and slander and detraction. Envy, spite, malice, swearing, cursing, condemning etc. They abandon their spouses and their children even when they are in the teenage years in order to pursue a lustful and impure way of life which will be for their condemnation if they happen to die without repentance.
Our Lord basically says you have to be radical. You cannot have it both ways. You have to choose. If you refuse to choose God's way the end is Hell and if you do follow Christ you will end up in the glory of Heaven with Him and in all the glory of the saints and Chosen ones of God. It is all there folks - please read it again and again. Pray for poor sinners who are led astray by the fashion of modern immorality.
Our Lady of Lourdes who appeared eighteen times to St Bernadette on 11th February 1858 said to Bernadette many times: "Pray for Sinners - Do Penance" did she not? She still says it. At Cana she said those wonderful words "Do whatever he tells you". There from our Lady's lips is the prescription for a happy life.
Let us choose the right way and find our freedom and our dignity as children of the New Covenant. I pray that we all have that final grace promised by the Sacred Heart of final repentance - no matter what. Such is the tender mercy of our Saviour.
God Bless you all,
Father Tom Connolly.
