THIRTY THIRD SUNDAY OF YEAR A + MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS., NOVEMBER 16TH 2014.

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

My Dear People,

Last week was Remembrance Sunday when the nation remembered with gratitude the War Dead and all those who have died in the armed Conflicts of our land right up to the present day when many of our lads are dying in the armed conflicts of the Islamic world. May the Lord deliver us from war. The ceramic poppies, in the moat of the Tower of London has attracted 4 and a Half million people more than any other work of art in our history. It just shows how people do not forget.

The candles of the Forty Hours in St KENTIGERN'S last week and this week, in St Edwards each have labels with names written on them as they were purchased to pray for the living and the dead and to burn in the Divine Presence of the most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar.

War is the most terrible thing and leads to whole peoples losing their homes and lands and loved ones and possessions.

Man is supposed to be rational and yet again and again he chooses war which solves very little as the late Pope taught and he had lived through the terrible occupation of the Nazis as well as the Communist takeover after the Poles had fought so bravely on the side of the Allies. Where are those Stalins and Hitlers now after they have done so much damage to humanity and caused the deaths of so many millions? Think of the resources of the earth which were consumed in order to make War. How well developed the world would be if all that money had been spent on development. Dictators always find the money to make war but have no money to build schools eh?

Well, our Lord in the talents Parable demonstrates the frustration of the Divine Master as he reckons with the pathetic excuses of those servants of his (that is – us) who have received from his hands so much. The Talents represents what God gives us in our humanity to begin with. We are made to Add Value to our lives you know. Teachers are expected to show and indeed demonstrate how their teaching has added to the progress of their pupils in skills and knowledge over the three terms they have had them to teach. You would find it bad would you not if your children made no progress in a year – had nothing "added" to their skills and knowledge? Of course you would. You would be complaining to the school.

Well – in a way our Lord is doing the same as you would. He has the right to expect a return from us for whom he lay down his life. He has enveloped us with his Divine Love and Mercy. He has incorporated us into his Mystical Body. He has revealed to us the Mysteries of God through Holy Church; He has fed us with the Divine Gift of his Sacred Body and Blood and flooded our minds with his knowledge and grace. It must make a difference. All of us can make a difference to this world as we pass through as Pilgrims on the way. We might not another Mother Teresa or St John Paul but we can do our "bit" and so show "interest" on the account for our Lord when he comes again to see how we have been getting along.

When it comes to the final reckoning we will all need to show our Accounts you know and how we have managed them in our lives. The Holy Souls have done it and they are on their way to Heaven. Pray for them as we do in this month of the Dead and they will pray for you. It is a two way traffic remember. Me and Father George offer Mass frequently at this time for the Lists of the names you have included in the Book of the Dead.

God Bless,

Father Tom Connolly
