FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR A.+ YEAR OF EVANGELISATION + 18TH May 2014.

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

My Dear People,

The Gospel read today at Mass is the one I choose (if I am let) for Requiem Masses. These are the intimate words of our Divine Lord spoken at the Last Supper and faithfully record by the youngest Apostle John and they resound through Holy Church in this joyful season. Just listen again to the words of our Saviour, the Good Shepherd as he speaks to the Twelve, hours before his arrest and betrayal.

He is trying to give them good memories to go on when the worst had happened - betrayal by Judas and the beginning of his Passion.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled - trust in God and trust in me."

"I am going to prepare a place for you now and after I have gone and prepared you a place I shall return to take you with me so that where I am, you maybe too."

"There are many rooms in my Father's house and if there were not I would have told you."

Now there you have it. These words of course are addressed to the whole Christian community and are valid for each and every one of us. Jesus is talking to YOU. "DO not let your hearts be troubled - I have gone to prepare a place and I shall return to take you with me."

You see our journey through the pilgrimage of life and the final passage of DEATH from this life to the Eternal life is done with Jesus our Lord "Taking us" - like a parent takes the hand of a child as it reaches up for security. He is taking us by the hand to rooms prepared for us- for US!!! Imagine that? It has our name on it. I remember being taken through an old graveyard near my Grandfather's place in Ballygar, Co Galway. I reached out instinctually to hold his big horny farmer’s hand. He said "Are you afraid?" I must have shown it and he said to me - "it's not the dead you need to be afraid of but the living!!!" How true as we all discover eh? I was only 8 so I did not comprehend then.

Our Lord uses such human language to re assure us. But remember he speaks with Divine knowledge and authority. He is not a guru trying to comfort us with some therapy. He is the Way and the Truth and this is the reality. "I shall return to take you with me." In death we will not be alone.

The Saint Pope John 23rd they say could see our Lord coming to take his soul to heaven. He had the Blessed Sacrament brought to his sick room in Castel Gondolfo and there he gave his soul to God. Good Pope John the world called him. He followed the Good Shepherd.

How fortunate we have been in these last decades with saintly Popes. It was announced his week that Pope Paul VI is to be made a "Blessed". His miracle was the cure of a baby in the womb who had no brain function. Mother was advised to terminate. It was in the USA. The mum prayed to Pope Paul and the baby was born free from defect and is now a healthy teenager.

"Do not let your heart be troubled- trust in in God still and trust in me..."

Let us take this post Easter message given before the Passion to our hearts and rejoice in this wonderful revelation of the way our Lord Loves us and shows it.

We welcome the Catenians to the Evening Mass which they will offer for Vocations. The Second Collection is for the training of priests.

God Bless you all.
