SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER A + 25TH MAY 2014. YEAR OF EVANGELISATION.

MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRIEST.

My Dear People,

Only three weeks to go before our Mission is launched and you will hear the voices of the St Patrick's community ringing from the altar inviting you to come to Mission each evening (and morning if you are able). You see the themes for each day and they are all fundamental to the Christian way of life and our discipleship of Christ.

We are planning publicity with Kevin's help on Local Radio and Newspapers and web sites etc so more people will hear the invite. De take those flyers to you street and give them to the doors near you.

The Samaritans who total outsiders to the Jews embraced the new Faith the disciples were preach and all kinds of signs were given as our Lord had promised. The sick were healed, the crippled walked and the demons came out shrieking. We forget to our peril that the church still has priests who practice exorcism - casting out evil spirits from people's souls. I was speaking to a priest who is an exorcist from Liverpool recently. He had amazing stories to tell. He said you have to speak to the person to find out what they have been messing around which allowed the demon to gain entry and then you know how to deal with it to cast it out. Honest - this in the 21st Century but it is true. If it was true in the Apostolic times, why not now? The kingdom of Satan is vanquished by the Risen Christ but, as St Peter says at Night Prayer "he wonders around seeking what souls he can devour..." Do not let him gain entry. Never go to fortune tellers or "weeji" boards or tarot cards and new age practises and other such demonic stuff. You ar temples of God's Holy Spirit- redeemed from death by the Blood of Jesus. Peter and John were sent to that Samaritan town and Confirmed the new Converts by laying hands upon them just as the Church still does in the Sacrament of Confirmation The Seven Fold Gifts and the Twelve fruits were poured out on them and so began the renewal of the face of the earth.

All this to fulfil our Lord's promise : "I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate who will be with you forever." This Spirit of Truth "the world cannot receive". It is a gift from God and is supernatural. He guides in complete truth. St Peter in the second reading warns us of the slander this truth and holding this truth will cause in unbelievers but he tells us to answer the slander with patience and a clear conscience. These times are difficult and soon we will be taken to law for upholding moral teaching of the Church as Divine Revelation. I have been involved in education all my priestly life and I can see what is coming. Peter's words are as applicable today as they ever were.

God Bless you,

Pray for the Mission 15th June beginning.

Father Tom Connolly
