Sermon for 15 November 2015

THIRTY THIRD SUNDAY OF THE YEAR B + . 15th November 2015.

My Dear People,

Yes – it is scary. What with modern video reprographics we can begin to imagine the end of Time which our Blessed Lord refers to in the Gospel today. The end of the world will be a truly cosmic event. There will be no escaping and it will be clearly manifest to all. The Equality lot had better run for it, for the Archangel Michael will be after them for trying to impose their immorality by Law on our nation, abolishing Marriage as between a man and a woman!

But wont we all be frightened? Our Lord tells us ..."in those days, after the time of distress – the sun will be darkened, the moon too, the stars start to fall and THEN THEY WILL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN GREAT POWER AND GLORY – HE WILL SEND THE ANGELS TO GATHER HIS CHOSEN..."etc. Pray that we will be in the chosen.

The world and the entire universe is a created thing and created things do not last forever. God has given it a timeframe and Christ will come when it is all done and he will be ALL in all and through all and be triumphant. The world as we know it is passing. This is what gave the martyrs such courage. They could see clearly the limitations of this passing world and were full of faith in their Divine Masters ultimate triumph over those who could kill them and torture them. As our Lord himself said to Pilate "You would have no power over me at all unless it was given you from above."

This is always true. We must be always on Christ's side in our fight with the powers of the Enemy, Satan. He is real and he is the fallen Archangel Lucifer who rebelled against God in Heaven. St Michael put him and his cohort down and they dwell in Hell but wonder around like a lion (St Peter says) looking for people to devour. Make sure we are well protected by our frequent use of the Saving Sacrament of Confession and the Blessed Eucharist. It is the antidote to the Evil One.

No one is happier than the soul who is under the gentle rule of Christ our Lord. That person has gained mastery of his/her own soul and is not buffeted this way and that but is on a smooth course to the Harbour which is Christ in Heaven – the Father and the Spirit – with our Lady and all the Saints.

Keep that firmly in your focus and you won't go far wrong.

Next Sunday is the Solemnity of Christ the Universal King and National Youth Sunday.

God Bless,

Father Tom Connolly.

TUESDAY NEXT Deanery Conference will be held at St Kentigerns and there will be a Concelebrated Mass for the dead of the Deanery at 10.30. 9.30 Mass will still be offered but you are welcome to come to the Deanery Concelebrated Mass for the Dead too.
